Belize’s citrus industry, which produces mostly oranges and grapefruit, is the country’s second-largest industrial export category, behind petroleum. The industry contributes USD181 per person to Belize’s economy, the highest per capita value in the world. With support from the Caribbean Development Bank, the Belize Citrus Growers’ Association has strengthened its research arm, by achieving ISO 17025 accreditation, the main standard used by testing and calibration laboratories.
