October 14, 2009No. 26/09 - BD NEWS RELEASE GRENADA EDUCATION LOAN APPROVED The Government of Grenada is to receive financial assistance from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) for a project to improve the quality and effectiveness of basic education in Grenada. CDB has approved a loan equivalent to USD 5 million and a technical assistance grant equivalent to USD 60,000 to the Grenada government for the schools rehabilitation and reConstruction project. This project has the specific objective of enhancing the learning and teaching environment through reConstruction and expansion of facilities at one primary school and three secondary schools in Grenada. It will also facilitate the teaching of the full secondary school curriculum. Two thousand children and 125 teaching and non-teaching staff members, who are now housed in inadequate temporary facilities, stand to benefit from improved accommodation. In addition, approximately 500 teachers will benefit from professional development training. The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development will be the executing agency for the project, which will see among other things, the Construction of a new block of classrooms and the provision of science and TVET laboratories at the Grenada Seventh Day Adventist Comprehensive School; provision of additional classrooms, laboratory and workshop facilities and rehabilitation of existing buildings at the Grenville Secondary School; reConstruction of a damaged two-storey administration/classroom block at the St. Joseph's Convent; and completion of rehabilitative works at the Vendôme Roman Catholic Primary School.
