Rachel Kyte, Chief Executive Officer of the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) and Special Representative of the United Nations (UN) Secretary General for SE4ALL, is the keynote speaker of the Caribbean Development Bank' (CDB) Seventeenth William G. Demas Memorial Lecture in Jamaica. The lecture, named in honour of the second President of the Bank, takes place May 17, 2016 at the IBEROSTAR Grand Hotel Rose Hall, St. James. It precedes the Forty-Sixth Annual Meeting of the Bank' Board of Governors (#CDBBoG46). The lecture will be streamed live via the Bank' Annual Meeting website www.caribank.org/bog46. Ms. Kyte' role as point person in the UN for action towards the recently agreed global goals on sustainable energy, and her wealth of experience in the area of climate change makes her well positioned to speak on the topic, 'Last Mile First - Building a Cleaner More Just Prosperity in Response to the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement.' A leading advocate for sustainable development, Ms. Kyte is focused on affordable, reliable and sustainable energy as the key to combating both poverty and climate change. Ms. Kyte drives SE4All' work to mobilise action towards its 2030 goals of ensuring universal access to modern energy services; doubling the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency; and doubling the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix. As Special Representative for the Secretary General she is the point person in the UN for action towards the recently agreed global goal on sustainable energy. Ms. Kyte served until December 2015 as World Bank Group Vice-President and Special Envoy for Climate Change, leading the Bank Group' efforts to campaign for an ambitious agreement at the 21st Convention of the Parties of COP 21. She was previously World Bank Vice-President for Sustainable Development and was the International Finance Corporation Vice-President for Business Advisory Services. Recipient of numerous awards for women' leadership, climate action and sustainable development, she is a Professor of practice in sustainable development at Tuft' Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. She holds a master' degree in international relations from Fletcher, and a bachelor' degree in history and politics from the University of London. CDB' Annual Meeting takes place on May 18 and 19, 2016. It will bring together Ministers of Finance from the Region along with Governors of Central Banks, economists, executives and academics to discuss issues that are of concern to the Bank' Borrowing Member Countries. This year there will be a series of seminars dealing with issues and solutions for poverty and inequality in the Caribbean; micro, small and medium enterprise development; and transforming maritime port services in the Region.
