Work Begins On ReConstruction of BNTF-Financed Senior Citizens Home in Grenada

On November 29, 2013, the Caribbean Development Bank's (CDB) Basic Needs Trust Funds (BNTF), in collaboration with the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Grenada, held a Sod Turning Ceremony for the reConstruction of the Top-Hill Senior Citizen Home in its original location in the Top Hill area. The Home was temporarily relocated to the ‘Nurse's Hostel' for the Princess Royal Hospital in 2010, when the conditions in the Top Hill location became unbearable.
The USD481,481 reConstruction project includes the rehabilitation of the existing matron quarters, Construction of a single story building, an administrative building, six double rooms, sickbay facilities, additional bathrooms and a powder room, as well as communal areas comprising a kitchen, sitting room, dining room, laundry-room, waiting room and a consultant's area. Planned exterior works include landscaping, fencing and Construction of a concrete pavement, car park, foot-path and walkway, as well as additional water storage facilities.
Mr. George Yearwood, Operations Officer (Civil Engineer), CDB, pledged that the Bank will work closely with BNTF Grenada to ensure the project is completed on time and the resulting level of care offered of a high standard which all can be proud of.
Minister of Labour, Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Hon. Elvin Nimrod, expressed gratitude to the BNTF and the CDB for all projects completed on the island thus far, and appealed to everyone who would play a meaningful role in making the senior citizens comfortable, to do their best.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Mrs. Gertrude Niles, said she looked forward to the completion of the quality long term care facility for the elderly.
BNTF Grenada representative, Mr. Isaac Bhagwan, noted that the scheduled duration for the reConstruction of the Top-Hill Senior Citizen Home is seven months.
