The University of the West Indies (UWI) will receive a USD13 million loan from the Caribbean Development Bank to assist with the expansion and rehabilitation of the Open Campuses in St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The loan, which was approved by the Bank's Board of Directors on Thursday, December 12, 2013, is being guaranteed by the Governments of the two countries.
Along with the expansion of the Open Campus sites, the loan will also be used to improve the technological capacity for service delivery and for the design of new demand-driven programmes which will help to make training more relevant.
The CDB Board of Directors also approved a technical assistance grant USD160,000 to UWI to assist with the financing of the development of an implementation framework for the Single Virtual University Space project, and improving maintenance at the Open Campuses in St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
