May 20, 2008No. 11/08 NEWS RELEASE CDB Expresses condolences to chinA The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has expressed condolences to the People's Republic of China in the wake of the devastating earthquake which shook Sichuan Province on May 12. CDB President, Dr. Compton Bourne, wrote to China's Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Mr. Liu Huanxing, on May 14, to offer deepest condolences on the tragic loss of so many lives on behalf of the staff of the Bank and on his own behalf. Dr. Bourne wished the "Government and People every success in their efforts to rescue those who are still trapped and may be alive, and in the subsequent programmes of counselling of survivors and the families of the deceased as well as in the later efforts of rehabilitation and reConstruction." China joined CDB as a non-regional member in 1998, and is represented on the Bank's Board of Governors and Board of Directors.
