April 22, 2010 No. 13/10-G CDB HOSTS REGIONAL WORKSHOP ON GENDER DIFFERENTIALS IN CARIBBEAN EDUCATION Next week, the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) will host a regional workshop on Gender Differentials in Caribbean Education. The workshop is part of a research project to examine the factors influencing gender differentials in enrolment and performance at the secondary and tertiary levels in selected Borrowing Member Countries of the Bank. The overall objective of the CDB-financed project is to engender better informed public policy in addressing current issues relating to gender and educational attainment. Approximately 70 participants are expected to attend. These include senior officials from the Ministries of Education and other social sector ministries, and representatives from the school community, the University of the West Indies (UWI) and other tertiary level institutions, industry and commerce, regional agencies and development partners. At the opening ceremony on Monday, Barbados' Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, the Hon. Ronald Jones, will give the Keynote Address. There will also be an Address by CDB's Vice-President (Operations), Mr. Desmond Brunton; Remarks by Deputy Principal of the Cave Hill Campus of UWI, Professor Eudine Barriteau; and Welcome Remarks from Director of the CDB Projects Department, Mrs. Tessa Williams Robertson. The workshop will take place from April 26-27, 2010, at the Accra Beach Hotel, Barbados.
