July 30, 2008No. 19/08-BD NEWS RELEASE CDB TO PROMOTE MANAGEMENT FOR DEVELOPMENT RESULTS CAPACITY IN THE OECS The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) will partner with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) on a project to improve the capacity of public sector officials in countries of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean Countries (OECS) in the area of Management for Development Results (MfDR). USD250,000 has been approved for this project, which will lead to the development of action plans for improving public financial management in OECS countries. MfDR has been defined as a management strategy focussing on performance and the achievement of outputs, outcomes and impact, that leads to sustainable improvements. Under the project, a number of CDB and IDB personnel will first be trained in the principles of MfDR at a four-day workshop facilitated by an internationally-recognised training institution. This will be followed by training for additional CDB officers in a three-day workshop on IDB's diagnostic methodology facilitated by the IDB. It will include a train-the-trainer component to enable the trained CDB personnel to conduct a four-day, sub-regional workshop in MfDR for public sector officials from the OECS. Initially, 72 persons will be trained under the project. This will be followed by a series of four-day workshops within each participating OECS member country, aimed at facilitating development of actions plans for improving public financial management. - END -
