Over 12, 900 resident from approximately 14 districts in west rural St. Andrew, Jamaica, now have access to Type II health facilities thanks to recently completed upgrades to the Golden Spring Health Centre. The Centre was completed at a cost of just over USD328,706 by the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF), with financing provided under the Caribbean Development Bank's (CDB) Community Investment Project, and a community contribution which included the provision of the land. The centre was officially handed over Located at the entrance of Stock Farm Road in Golden Spring, the clinic serves some 4,000 persons monthly from the surrounding communities of Brandon Hill, New Garden, Iron River, Mt. Pleasant, Mt. Prospect, Mt. James; Mt. Charles, Mt. Dakin, Lime Edge, Mt. Airy, Halls Green, Duppy Gully, Temple Hall, and Boone Hall. Originally a Type I health centre, the upgraded and expanded facility includes a new waiting area, records office, examination rooms, public health nurse office, a dressing room, a treatment room, a sterilisation room, nebulisation room, a medical storage room, and a laundry/utility/storage room. The facility will be equipped by the Ministry of Health. The centre offers child health services including immunisation, as well as ante- and post natal care and family planning services. Through the Ministry of Health, a doctor and public health nurse will be added to the staff complement of the upgraded facility, and additional services made available such as health promotion and illness prevention programmes, as well as surveillance and disease control.
