The Government of Guyana will receive a loan of USD25 million from the Caribbean Development Bank to fund a Project which will protect a number of communities from flooding and other hazards brought on by the effects of climate change. Components of the project include the reConstruction and improvement of approximately 5.4 km of sea and river defences, as well as for capacity in shoreline change monitoring and analysis. The project will also include a Community Awareness and Education Programme. The project will involve 20 rural communities in Regions 2, 3, 4 and 6 along the coastline and in Leguan Island which is in the Essequibo estuary.
