Tomorrow, Friday, May 8, 11 youths ages 16-35 will face the judges in the VYBZING St. Kitts and Nevis Spoken Word Challenge Final hosted by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) at Sweet Lime, Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis at 7:00 p.m. The 11 finalists will each present a three to four-minute piece on the theme, ‘Creative Industries and Youth: Unleashing Potential and Growth.' The finalists are: Richard James Galloway, Jonelle Irish, Quinn Martin, Mervil Nisbett, Sanjay Caines, Seymona Hutton, Wricherley Gumbs, Jihan Williams, Kadeise Hendrickson, Creus Richardson and Karisa Willett. In the 16-29 age category, the winner will receive USD1000, second place USD750 and third place USD500. USD1000 will also be awarded to the winner in the 30-35 age category. Finalists will be assed based on creativity, message content and appropriateness to theme, coherence and structure, and overall presentation. From May 10-17, the public will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite performer via the VYBZING Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/CDBVYBZING. Videos of the performances will be uploaded and a special People's Choice prize of USD250 awarded to the performer whose video receives the most ‘likes.' The Challenge, which was launched in March, tasked youth of St. Kitts and Nevis with using the spoken word art form to share their vision of the Caribbean in 2040, identifying challenges to be overcome and recommending solutions to promote the potential of the Region's creative industries. VYBZING is the Caribbean Development Bank's primary vehicle for youth engagement. The Spoken Word Challenge is just one of the activities held under the VYBZING programme. The next activity, the VYBZING Youth Forum takes place May 13-15 at the Ocean Terrace Inn, Basseterre under the theme, ‘Creative Entrepreneurship and Youth: Unleashing Potential and Growth.' 2015 VYBZING St. Kitts and Nevis is in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture's Department of Youth Empowerment.
